One indoor bonsai tree that is popular among working individuals is the Mini Jade, or the portulacaria afra or Africa Jade. This bonsai is capable of surviving in any office environment. Why point that out? Offices often turn down the heat over the weekend in order to save money, plus the lights are often out and the blinds closed over the weekends. However, the Mini Jade is capable of handling this and still thriving. A native of South Africa, the Mini Jade tends to feature pale green leaves that are almost perfectly round. Overall, the Mini Jade is about a third of the size of a full, standard Jade. It features a fleshy trunk and branches that can store a good amount of water. While it’s a wonderful looking tree, its easy care makes it an ideal beginner bonsai.

 

Mini Jade bonsai flourish in temperatures between 75 and 80 degrees during the day and 55 degrees during the night. However, they can live in temperatures as low as 40 degrees, which is why they will survive the colder weekends at the office. They also only need watering only about once a week, so you don’t have to keep checking the soil. The Mini Jade does like abundant sunshine, though, so you may want to place it near a window.
